Vancouver Sun, June 6, 2011: A draft policy on sexual orientation being considered by the Burnaby board of education would impinge on freedom of expression at schools, a Catholic group says. "They are attempting to impose a language on everyone in the school that would substantially restrict the ability of anyone to disagree with homosexual conduct and lifestyle, and that sort of thing," said Sean Murphy, director of the Catholic Civil Rights League in B.C. Among other objectives, the draft policy seeks to prohibit any language or behaviour that discriminates against students or school staff on the basis of real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity, or that is heterosexist.
